In the early 19th century a small number of Indians went to Australia as Convicts shifted them by the British colonial government in India. Other Indian people migrated to Australia as laborers. In the mid of the 19th century, temporary skilled migrants took as permanent migrants in Australia due to the risk of skill shortage in Australia. Because of its educational and technological advancement, Indians migrated to Australia.
At the end of the 19th century, more Indian people migrated for work, mostly working as hawkers and agricultural laborers in Australia.
In 1996 nearly 75 percent of Indian migrants from Karnataka went to pursue their higher studies in Australia, and the same was followed by Punjabi migrants by 71 percent out of total migrants to Australia. At end of the 19th century, there were a large number of students in Australia about 10,000 in 1999. Australia had worked hard to take the Indian students to
study in Australia. for that Australian government made attractive for students as the levels of fee, Cost of living, visa regulations for them to pursue higher qualifications, which means the Australian made quality of education for them. Students can work on the holidays to support their finances. Australia permitted that students who finished their studies can apply to live in Australia, if they do that within six months then they are excluded from the normal visa requirement of skilled work experience.

Indian migrants have greatly contributed to religious diversity in Australia through the construction of Hindu, Sikh, Jain places of worship and institutions. India-born Australians (born in India but they are permanent residents in Australia), From 2004 to 2005 9,414 Indians migrated to this Australia. many are qualified, skilled migrants. The rest of people's migration is due to family reunions.
The People who migrated between 2004 to 2005 most people are working as IT professionals, accountants, refrigeration and air-conditioning mechanics, fitters, nurses, cooks, civil engineers, and motor vehicles mechanics in Australia.
according to the 2011 Australian census says that 47.3% identified as Hindu,18,7% identified as Sikhs,16.3% identified as Christians, and 3.4% identified as Muslim they are basically Indian Migrants. According to the 2016 census, the Punjabi population in Australia is 1,25,909. The people in Australia speak many Indian languages they are Tami speaks l73,161, Bengali speaks 54,566, Odia speaks 721, Telugu speaks 34,435, Kashmiri speaks 215, Kanada speaks 9,701, Konkani speaks 2,416, Marathi speaks 13,055 and other languages are spoken in Australia. In 20016 According to the Department of foreign affairs and trade, more than 60,000 Indian students are studying in Australia
By the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2016 census, 6,19,164 people in Australia marked that they are of ethnic Indian ancestry. Among the Australian population, 5,92,000 were Indian-born people.
Indian culture influenced Australia by Traditional cuisine, architecture, and art, Indian migrants contributed to Australian diversity.
